Joan Barfoot (born within Owen Sound, Ont.) is the award-winning author of Ten novels, including, last, Luck, which was shortlisted for the 2005 Scotiabank Giller Prize. Her former novel, Critical Injuries, was longlisted for the 2002 Man Booker Prize.

Her 1986 novel Dancing in the Dark became the motion-picture show of the equivalent title, starring Martha Henry. It won 3 Genie Awards, including Right Art Counsel, Right Adapted Screenplay, & Best Performance by an Actress inside the Leading Role.

Barfoot's operate has been equated internationally therewith of Anne Tyler, Carol Shields, Margaret Drabble, Fay Weldon and Margaret Atwood.
